The new Part M of the Building Regulations comes into force on the 1st May 2004 Document M Covers all types of access
The new standard is not just about disabled access but now covers access for everyone, including
Wheelchair users
Ambulant Disabled
People of either sex with babies and small children
People with learning difficulties
Visual or hearing impairments
People who lack tactile sensitivity - who are likely to schald themselves on hot surfaces
The new standard is mandatory for all new hotels and for major refurbishments, e.g. extensions to buildings, or where an entire washroom or
bathroom is being refurbished with new products
