£400 Government Boiler Scrappage Scheme
As of 18th January 2010 the Government has made available a Boiler scrappage scheme in England to help up to 125,000 households replace inefficient G-Rated boilers or worse with new energy efficient, low CO2 emission, A-Rated boilers.
Applications for a £400 voucher towards the cost of upgrading a boiler can be made to the Energy Saving Trust by householders in an owned or privately rented home.
The boiler to be replaced must be the main boiler used to heat the home and if the householder (or tenant) is under 60years old, the boiler must be in working order. If over 60 years old an application can be made even if the boiler to be scrapped is not in working order but is still the main boiler used to heat the room and must still be connected to the wet heating system.
The boiler scrappage scheme applies to any A-Rated gas, oil or LPG boiler, boilers with a Passive Flue Heat Recovery Device, Micro CHP units or Microgeneration Certification Scheme-registered biomass boilers and heat pumps. Solar Thermal is also eligible if combined with an eligible boiler replacement. ELECTRIC BOILERS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE.
