The wellbeing properties of Saunas

The Sauna may be the best way to warm through the muscles and we know it makes us sweat but there are many things the sauna does that many of us wont even notice.

Saunas are a great place to be...

Throughout life people will recommend ways of helping you purge your body of toxins, relax your muscles, mind and cleanse your skin. But saunas are not only a great way to do all of the above - saunas are also a warming place to mull things over and relax the mind. Saunas are traditionally a finish custom that are now enjoyed the world over.

Saunas have many health benefits...

Saunas increase your metabolism and pulse rate and dialate your arteries. Because of this, your skin benefits from increased circulation. Saunas are also a great way of helping your body get rid of toxins. They open up the pores and allow your skin to remove all the dirt and rubbish that stops it from working properly. Saunas also take the strain off the liver and kidneys. This means that a sauna is probably the best way for your skin to clean itself aswell as at the same time flushing your organs through.

When you come out of a sauna your skin will feel noticebly cleaner and softer to touch because any rubbish that was lurking in it has been flushed out. The benefits of saunas don't stop there. If you have been out the night before and had alot to drink, the sauna can be very helpful in your recovery the next day.

Saunas provide similar benefits to exercise

No one is suggesting that a sauna is a substitue for physical exercise but using a sauna does bring about similar physical metabolic results as working out. Furthermore - saunas have been known to relieve the symptoms of minor illnesses.

Saunas are the ultimate in relaxation

After using a sauna, many people find themselves in a better mental state. This could be because it is a relaxing place to calmly think things through during a quiet time. Saunas help to achieve this using heat to relax the body and elleviate the symptoms of any joint and muscle pain - just to enought to give you the mental boost you need to increase your morale. Saunas can also be a great social experience. Alot of talking can take place when sharing a sauna with someone. The Finns have been known to conduct business deals when using their saunas.

In Britain, appropriate clothing for the sauna is normally the same clothing you would wear to the beach or a swimming pool.

Saunas Raise Blood Pressure

Saunas cause the blood pressure to rise and therefore are not recommended for pregnant women or the elderly. Cold showers are popular after using a sauna which raises the blood pressure steeplu. However, a lukewarm shower is normally considered a better option. If you have any doubts, we strongly recommend you consult your doctor before using saunas.

Wet Sauna or Infrared Sauna - What's the Difference?

Here at Heat and Plumb - we can supply you with 2 types of sauna. A wet sauna or an infrared sauna (also known as a dry sauna). These 2 types of sauna are actually very similar.

The Similarity between both types of saunas is that they use a heater with rocks. The difference is that in a wet sauna, water is poured over the hot rocks to produce steam. In an Infrared sauna, no water is added and no steam is generated.

Another difference between a wet sauna and an infrared sauna is the difference in temperature necessary to produce a beneficial effect. In a wet sauna, the temperature is lower because humid air is better at transmitting heat, so a lower temperature is needed in a wet sauna. Infrared saunas temperatures can approach 200 degrees Fahrenheit; because the heat is so dry, however, the bather's sweat evaporates quickly.

Saunas have many wellbeing health benefits. These include the following..
  • Burns Calories and controls weight
