Double ended baths - the basics

The basic difference between a double ended bath and a standard bath is the position of the taps. Rather than the taps being at one end of the bath, they are positioned along the longest side of the bath, making for a more comfortable bathing experience. It's a modern choice for your bathroom, and we stock a huge range of baths, taps and other accessories which will allow you to create the ideal look in your home.

Positioning a double ended bath

Most double ended baths are designed to be placed against a wall on the longest side. Some can be placed in a corner, with two sides against the wall. There are also freestanding double ended baths in our extensive range, which provide real impact to any British home. Remember that often the most expensive aspect of installing a new bath is extra plumbing, so it's something to consider when you're trying to decide where you want your new bath.

Things to think about when buying a double ended bath

Freestanding or fitted to wall? Freestanding baths are certainly stylish and have a modern look. If you've plenty of space in the bathroom, then there's nothing stopping you placing a freestanding bath in the centre of the room if you like. However, if you have an average or smaller bathroom, then freestanding baths may take up too much floor space, and a bath flush to the wall will be preferable.

Size: Double ended baths come in all shapes and sizes. Most are 1700mm or 1800mm long by between 700mm and 800mm wide. Measure the space you have available in your bathroom to provide a starting point for choosing a new double ended bath. You can also look at capacity; larger baths don't always hold more water than shorter baths as capacity will depend on design.

Material: Most of our double ended baths are made from acrylic, as this material is very strong, hardwearing and very easy to clean. The surface on acrylic baths is glossy, and they will blend in well with other similar items in your bathroom. Another more traditional option is steel, popular with freestanding baths. Steel is even more durable than acrylic, but is a lot heavier and a bit more expensive too.

Matching taps: Most double ended baths aren't supplied with taps, which gives you the freedom to choose any of the taps from our extensive range. Some baths are supplied with one or two holes for taps drilled already, which may restrict your choice of taps. If you've chosen a freestanding bath, make sure that the taps you're looking at are suitable for this style of bath.

What else will I need?

Panels might not be supplied as standard with a new double ended bath, and depending on the type of bath you've chosen, you will need a side panel and either one or two end panels. You'll also need to buy taps, the choice of which will depend on both your individual style and the type of bath. You'll need to remove your old bath, and if your DIY skills aren't up to the job, get your local plumber to help you with the installation.
