According to a report in Science Daily, a form of polymer coating devised by scientists in America may be the key to fog free bathroom mirrors.

The fogging that occurs not just on bathroom mirrors but on any surface where moisture condenses on a cool surface is set to be tackled by a new discovery that could make this a thing of the past. According to the report in Science Daily, scientists from MIT in Boston have discovered a substance that can effectively prevent bathroom mirrors from fogging up in a steamy environment.

Bathroom Mirrors – Science to the Rescue

The polymer coating that can be placed on bathroom mirrors to prevent the fogging issue is the brainchild of Michael Rubner, who states to Science Daily, “When bathroom mirrors condense they are just the right size to scatter light. If light gets scattered you can't see through those glasses anymore. We're forming what we call nanopores. The pores are so small that you can't see them with your eyes. They don't scatter light. But they're large enough so that when you put a drop of water onto the surface, it's drawn into those pores and spread across the surface instantaneously." The discovery of this useful polymer is likely to have many functional applications beyond the world of bathroom mirrors and its creator believes it will prove to be extremely beneficial for drivers and has the potential to be utilised in military situations.
