Faulty Toilet Seats Lead to Death

A range of faulty raised toilet seats has left six people being injured and one woman dead. There have been over 91 reports of these broken toilet seats.

The six injured people have suffered from bumps to the head, bruises and back injury where the toilet seat has slipped.

One woman was killed after falling off her faulty toilet seat; however, it is not clear of the exact circumstances besieging her death. The public are being urged to be aware of this if they own a raised toilet seat, especially social and health care providers. Around 25,000 of these disabled toilet seats were sold to the public between May 2007 and January 2008. The rubber pads on these special care toilet seats have been coming away from the bracket, used to secure the toilet seat, causing the toilet seat to slip and in some cases resulting in the occupant becoming injured.

However, it is important to emphasise the fact that it is not all raised toilet seats that have incurred this problem and that it is only a certain batch from one company. These problems with their high rise toilet seats have been dealt with, all customers who bought one of these toilet seats has been sent a letter of warning and apology. These toilet seats are extremely helpful for people who have trouble bending down and are commonly found in hospitals and care homes
