How to care for your wood toilet seat

Solid wood toilet seats enjoy ongoing popularity with homeowners due to the natural touch they provide in the bathroom and the quality inherent in their appearance.

There are many different materials to choose from including pine, oak, beech and mahogany as well as modern and antique styles of design. Whilst the majority of seats are manufactured from plastic or porcelain, many people prefer wood due to the touch of class they offer which can transform an otherwise mediocre bathroom suite.

Although wood toilets seats are attractive, they require appropriate care in order to avoid cracks developing as unlike other materials, wood absorbs moisture and cleaners suitable for other surfaces may be too harsh to use. By following the step by step guide below, you can be sure of keeping your wooden lavatory seat in tip-top condition:
  • Wearing rubber gloves, fill your bathroom basin with warm water and add a small amount of liquid antibacterial soap.
  • Lift the toilet lid to reach the bottom of the toilet seat and using a sponge clean the underside of the seat.
  • Rinse the sponge and then wash the top of the seat.
  • Next refill the basin with clean water and remove the soapy water from the seat.
  • Dry immediately using a towel and spray seat with a disinfectant.
  • Repeat this cleaning process weekly or whenever the seat becomes soiled.

  • These simple steps will help ensure your wooden lavatory seat stays looking good for years to come and continue to be a fine feature in your bathroom.
