Investigating how Commercial Boilers can save money

There are many different types of boilers and many that are designed to save money and conserve energy.

Such boilers are gas condensing boilers, condensing combi boilers and condensing gas boilers. A thought on economics today: condensing flue gas waste heat recovery. It’s precisely the sort of brand new technology that's perfect for boosting investment. The investments could create new long-term jobs, as well as savings that would begin immediately and carry on into the future.

How does this new boiler efficiency system work?

It's not uncommon for large institutions such as, universities, hospitals, schools, and other large manufacturers to use big and moderately inefficient natural gas fired boilers. These boilers only work at about 80% efficiency, but more than likely not even that much on most days. They also consume huge amounts of fuel. The result of inefficiency is that these huge boilers are expelling hot waste between 300 and 700 degrees, a huge amount of wasted energy. Gas used to be very cheap and people weren’t thinking about the environment, however, now the worlds in recession and emissions from boilers matter, it seems mindless to vent off 700 degree waste heat. That's where condensing flue comes in.

Older and inefficient boilers can be fitted with stainless steel and aluminum systems that can obtain most of the waste heat, accelerating the boilers system efficiency to as much as 97%. Simply, the system works by transferring the waste energy into water, which can then be used for hot water, space heating, or a manufacturing process. For example, it means that a school might be able to heat its swimming pool with the energy currently being wasted from the boiler and still have energy left for other functions.

If the condensing flue systems went into public institutions such as schools, universities, and so on, the increased energy efficiency would start to save money straight away. If the flues were installed in private businesses, they would cut boiler operating costs, and might even help to keep struggling companies running. In either case, the boiler systems would mean more than saved money; they would also assist in environmental benefit.

How would a condensing boiler help the environment?

Approximately, for every 17,000 cubic feet of natural gas saved, the climate will be spared one ton of carbon-dioxide. Generally institutions burn through that much natural gas every hour, boosting the efficiency of just a single boiler from 10% to about 80%-90%, this would be roughly the same as taking 100 cars off the road every year. Since some large institutions burn through 10 times that much natural gas, upgrading to a condensing boiler could be the climate equivalent of getting 1,000 plus cars off the road.

These figures aren’t exact but this could provide real benefits to the climate, saving money and creating jobs. It is clear from this information that it should not only be domestic boilers that are working at a high efficiency rate. If all standard efficiency commercial boilers upgraded to condensing boilers, it would save huge amounts of money and work at a higher efficiency rate.
