Potential dangers of Infrared Saunas

There are no known dangers of using Infrared Saunas, in fact they are extremely safe, infrared heaters are even used in incubators for premature babies.


The only known dangers in concern with using infrared saunas are for already existing conditions. Where it is unadvisable to raise the core temperature or with any condition that impairs the ability to perspire.

Infrared Saunas can cause dehydration-

Elderly people are much more likely to be at risk of dehydration if they use an Infrared Sauna and are advised to drink a lot of water before using a sauna, also during and after. However, this does not just apply to the elderly it is also very important for anyone using an Infrared sauna, it is just more important for the elderly.

Infrared Saunas might aggravate joint injuries-

It is unadvisable to apply any kind of heat to a swollen joint for up to 48hours after the injury. This includes using Infrared Saunas.

Infrared Saunas are unadvisable if you are pregnant-

Doctors might warn you to stop using any type of sauna whilst you are pregnant because the low level heat could become uncomfortable; however, there is no proof that it would cause the unborn baby any harm.

Infrared Saunas might damage implants-

Silicone implants or any silicone prostheses mean you should check with your doctor before using any type of sauna. An Infrared Sauna shouldn’t be a problem because the infrared heat is absorbed by the silicone, although the infrared heat could warm it. If you were to get any discomfort or pain in the area around the implant then you should stop using the sauna immediately and report the incident to your doctor.

Infrared Saunas might affect medication-

Using an Infrared Sauna may cause certain medications to cause heat strokes, so it is a good idea to check with a doctor before using a sauna.

Infrared Saunas aren’t suitable if you’re suffering from a fever-

Avoiding an Infrared Sauna if you are suffering from a fever, as it will encourage the fever to soar dangerously high.

Infrared Saunas should be avoided by people with Haemophilia-

Anyone who suffers haemophilia should avoid any type of sauna as it could be fatal.
