Shower Trays and Athletes Foot

Beware of stepping onto shower trays - Athlete's Foot is painful, damaging and very contagious.

Athlete's Foot is hard to get rid of. And you need to consider foot hygiene when using shower trays – whether in public or in the home. Shower trays in communal swimming baths for example can be a major hazard. And shower trays in gyms – no matter how high end the gym is – can also be breeding grounds for fungal infections.

Shower Trays – Cautious Steps

It isn't just Athlete's Foot that can be triggered on shower trays that have the virus. A verruca is also commonly caught from a shower tray. The papilloma virus loves the moist conditions of shower trays and changing rooms. When it comes to dealing with Athlete's Foot however, make sure you keep your shower trays at home clean and dry after use. Don't share towels or flannels with anyone in your household who suffers from Athlete's Foot. After you've stepped off your shower tray, use a clean towel and make sure you dry in between your toes and your feet are well ventilated. Avoid wearing socks and shoes 24-7 – these moist conditions will only act as a breeding ground for Athlete's Foot making it worse.

Foot Care – Keep it Clean

If you suffer from Athlete's Foot that doesn't mean you should avoid shower trays! Keeping your feet clean is important. We rely on our feet to carry us great distances over our lifetime, so give them a little TLC and pampering now and then. As well as keeping shower trays and shower rooms as dry as possible when not in use to help prevent Athlete's Foot, incorporate foot scrubs into your showering routine. After you've dried your feet properly, consider a foot balm. If you have Athlete's Foot, don't ignore it. There are over-the-counter treatments you can get. If you leave it, Athlete's Foot can become painful and damaging and you will have to consult a specialist Chiropodist or foot health professional. Athlete's Foot is basically a fungal infection that thrives in moisture and warmth (which is why it's so commonly between the toes). Wash your feet a couple of times a day if you have the infection, dry your feet thoroughly and seek treatment. If you don't it could develop into nasty fungal nail infections.
