Steam Rooms Battle Impurities

Sweating it all out in steam rooms is great for your health and boosts your body and mind.

Sweating may not be very socially acceptable – in fact, sweating is seen as often ugly and embarrassing if for example you're stood next to a perspiring commuter on a packed train. But despite its poor image, sweating is in fact good for you. And there are places where dedicated sweating is in fact encouraged – saunas and steam rooms.

Something to Sweat About

In fact, sweating is an integral part of staying healthy, regulating your body's temperature and getting rid of toxins or waste materials. Sweating in steam rooms then is a great way to achieve ultimate cleanliness, helping you feel de-toxed and refreshed. Some people believe that up to 30% of bodily wastes can be excreted through sweating. Steam rooms could in fact be called sweat rooms, although perhaps that may put some people off! But perhaps steam rooms are more important than ever in today's society. Because many of us are scared to look sweaty, we pile on antiperspirant, which clogs pores and stops us sweating. Fewer of us are taking exercise and live a sedentary life – again reducing the amount we would normally sweat. Wearing synthetic clothes which don't let you breathe, can impact on how we sweat. Steam rooms are a great way to balance out the synthetic and artificial lifestyles that stop us from sweating, helping us eliminate toxins and boost circulation.

All Steamed Up

The benefits of steam rooms then go beyond simply helping to improve your skin or to leave you less stressed. Steam rooms help stiff joints and tense muscles and as it promotes sweating, this helps the immune system as you detox unwanted waste through sweat. Steam rooms can also help certain people who struggle with regular respiratory illnesses or problems. Most of us have held our heads under a towel over a steaming bowl of water, with a few drops of decongestant oil. Steam rooms can offer relief for catarrh or blocked noses, and the high moisture in steam means steam rooms are gentle on those with respiratory issues. It's important to note that although steam rooms offer a wealth of health and wellbeing benefits, steam rooms are not safe for everybody – if you have high blood pressure for example you should always consult a doctor before using steam rooms.
