Showers - Pet Parrot Finds Its Voice

Showers aren’t somewhere that you would typically expect to find parrots but, according to a report in the Daily Mail, a parrot found its singing voice after its owner took the bird for showers to clear a chest infection.

According to the report in the Daily Mail, a parrot by the name of Tocky has been taking showers in order to overcome a chest infection and has found his singing voice in the process. The bird’s owner, Nick Paton, starting taking the parrot into his shower cabin when the parrot’s squawk became more of a wheeze due to a chest infection and before long it became apparent that showers were working wonders for not only Tocky’s chest infection but also for his singing voice.

Showers – Natural Habitat

When you are used to the tropical climate of the rainforest, arriving in Jersey doesn’t quite compare in the humidity stakes. According to the report in the Daily Mail, the lack of humidity in the air was one of the primary causes of Tocky’s chest infection and led vets to suggest that he take showers to make his breathing easier. Speaking to the Daily Mail, the parrot’s owner, Nick Paton, stated, “Because Tocky's system is designed for a rainforest he needs regular moisture in the air. He can't quite cope without the humidity to inhale. The vet suggested the shower and we gave it a try and it worked a treat. He absolutely loves it and will sit on the shower door or flap around with me under the water. We make sure there is no soap to get in his eyes or feathers."

Showers – Amazonian Climate

Tocky, a maroon bellied cocure, is used to living in an Amazonian environment, typically in Brazil, and, it is safe to say, the UK’s climate isn’t really comparable to this. According to the report in the Daily Mail, this led a local vet to suggest taking Tocky for showers as this would provide a more hospitable environment for the plucky parrot. Speaking to the Daily Mail, veterinarian Peter Haworth, stated, “There have only been a couple of weeks of showers but Tocky's wheezing has almost disappeared. He is much more like his old self."
