Bathrooms - Bath causes bomb security scare
02/01/2008
An upturned
bath caused a major scare in Gosport on Monday night when a local resident mistook it for an unexploded World War II bomb.
The unnamed resident spotted the object in his garden at around 4pm on New Year's Eve, The News reports.
The scare prompted the authorities to evacuate the street and set up a cordon to prevent anyone from entering.
Emma Smith, 28, who lives in the street, told the newspaper: "We packed overnight bags and took them with us when we went out just so we had our things with us in case we couldn't come back, but just planned on staying out as late as possible and hoped it would all be over by the time we got back."
Residents were allowed back in the street when disposal experts found that far from being a relic from the Blitzkreig, the bomb was in fact a vintage Armitage Shanks bathtub.
