Bathrooms - David James slams water wasting toilets
16/10/2007
England goalkeeper David James has slammed toilets at Chelsea FC's ground for being ridiculously wasteful with water.
Although best known for once blaming a critical goalkeeping error on his having stayed up all night playing on his Playstation, latterly James has cut a more a serious figure, using interviews to speak out about the damage he sees being done to the environment.
It's perhaps unsurprising, then, that he should have rounded on wasteful toilet flushing system in place at Stamford Bridge.
He said: "I've been told they have a toilet system that flushes automatically every 20 seconds, which must entail using an absolutely ridiculous amount of water."
"Absolutely no thought has been given to environmental issues during the design of that sanitary system."
James's burgeoning interest in environmental affairs has recently seen him engaged by the FA to head an awareness raising campaign about green issues.
He has also been asked by Portsmouth owner Milan Mandarich for suggestions on how to minimise the environmental impact of the club's proposed new stadium.
