Bathrooms - Toilet heads fight against global warming
17/10/2007
A toilet capable of turning human faeces into bio-gas has been developed by an Indian inventor.
Bindeshwar Pathak, founder of the Sulabh International Social Service Organisation, claims his device - which he says also converts urine into fertiliser - is a landmark in the fight against global environmental problems, the Enquirer reports.
"We want others to know about this technology which was recently installed at Kabul, Afghanistan, because it can help meet the Millennium Development Goals and reduce global warming," Mr Pathak said.
The toilet is set to be unveiled at the seventh annual World Toilet Summit to be held in New Delhi at the end of October.
The Sulabh International Social Service Organisation is a non-governmental body which aims to provide toilets to the estimated 730 million in India who are without them.
Heat and Plumb offers a range of toilet products including subtle concealed cisterns from Mirage and Armitage Shanks and a range of specially designed toilets for disabled users.
