Bathrooms - Young turning to bathroom home improvement

Home improvement is set to become the new fashionable pastime among the young, the findings of a new survey suggest.

Research by CreditExpert.co.uk found that the current uncertainty in the credit market and the economy in general had put homeowners of all ages off moving house.

Instead many people intend to try and improve their current home, an intention that was found to be particularly common among those aged between 25 and 34.

More than 30 per cent of homeowners in that age group are planning to undertake a major piece of work, with new bathrooms and kitchens popular choices, together with loft conversions, extensions and conservatories.

A recent study by Halifax found that professional valuers believe that extensions and loft conversions are the two improvement projects that add the most to a home's price.

New kitchens, conservatories and an upgraded central heating system were also named as schemes that add value.
