24/09/2007
A housing scheme in Leeds has won awards thanks in part to its energy efficient boiler system.
The Primrose Hill affordable housing development in the city has been presented with Best New Affordable Housing Scheme at the Housing Excellence Awards, Best Sustainable Development (West Yorkshire) in the Built Quality Awards and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors' Commendation for Design and Innovation.
Gas combination
boilers, solar panels and low-energy lighting are some of the features that the awards scheme has used to help deliver low emission homes.
Welcoming the awards, Jimm Reed, senior development project manager at Yorkshire Housing, explained: "Environmental issues and sustainability were the backbone to this project and have been reflected throughout the design."
Peter Cartwright, director of Cartwright Pickard Architects, told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "The design and development team were committed to sustainability from the outset and every aspect of the project was co-ordinated to maximise energy efficiency."
