Boilers - Condensing Boiler grants lowers carbon impact from Isle of Man
06/03/2008
Government grants for high-efficiency
boilers and improved insulation are helping the Isle of Man's progress in reducing its carbon footprint, it has been reported.
Since 2000, over 1,000 high-efficiency boilers have been installed in private properties with the help of government grants, according to the Isle of Man Today.
Also, 250 properties have seen double-glazing installed, while almost 200 loft insulation plans have been passed.
Tony Brown, chief minister, said: "Although the Isle of Man has no legally binding targets, our commitment to the Kyoto Protocol means that
we are aiming to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions."
Mr Brown also said that more policies to improve the carbon footprint of the Isle of Man are being developed, and that these could include
renewable energy such as wind turbines or
solar heating.
Biomass boilers, manufactured by firms such as Volkera, have a range of environmental and economic benefits, including savings in fuel costs and the use of carbon neutral energy source.
