Boilers - Manufacturers ''must continue to innovate''
28/02/2008
Heating equipment manufacturers have a key role to play in the battle to reduce carbon emissions, according to an industry expert.
The government is determined to cut emissions from domestic properties and has been given an additional incentive to do just that by the European commission, which has decreed the UK must use
renewable energy sources for 15 per cent of its energy by 2020.
Richard Soper, managing director of Worcester Bosch - a manufacturer of condensing
boilers,
solar heating systems and ground source heat pumps - said the industry had to continue to innovate in order to aid the switch to renewable energy.
"It is our job to develop technologies capable of delivering heating and hot water in an environmentally-friendly way," said Mr Soper.
He added that training is also crucial to the process as specifiers and installers need to understand the latest technology fully in order to be able to encourage end-users to choose it.
