Boilers - NHS Trust''s new boiler cuts heating bills
20/11/2007
Carmarthenshire NHS Trust's decision to invest in energy-efficient
boilers to save money and cut its environmental costs looks to have paid off.
The Trust spends around £2.1 million per year on utilities - money that would some would argue might be better used on treating patients.
However, since investing 40,000 in boilers last year, the Trust has seen its annual gas savings hit £25,000, the Western Mail reports.
A similarly impressive reduction has also been noted in the trusts carbon dioxide emissions, which are down by more than 150 tonnes per year.
Rob Elliott, head of estates at the Trust, said: "Raising awareness of environmental issues among staff is the first and easiest step to reducing our environmental impact while at the same time saving the trusts resources and money.
"Taking small actions such as turning off lights that arent needed and making sure we turn off items of electrical equipment could really make a difference if we all play our part."
Heat and Plumb offers a range of energy-efficient boilers to choose from, including the award-winning models from Trianco.
