Boilers - School calls for boiler help
A small Scottish school is doing its best to fight climate change by campaigning for a new boiler, it has emerged.

Pupils at Drumblade primary school near Huntly have called on politicians to help them install a wood-pellet boiler, reports the Aberdeen Press and Journal.

The school's eco-committee aims to scrap the old oil boiler and has written to councillors, parents and politicians, including first minister Alex Salmond and MP Gordon Bruce, to help them raise funds to achieve this.

Gayle Readman, a teacher at the primary school, told the newspaper: "The benefits [of a wood-fired system] are huge. It's renewable energy.

"The main thing is we have an oil boiler at the moment. It's 27-years-old."

Ms Readman said the boiler selected by the eco-committee would be able to run on wood pellets that are made in the local area.

According to the Centre for Alternative Technology, grants of up to £1,500 can be applied for by homeowners looking to fit a wood-fired boiler.
