Boilers - Sugar firm is sweet on biomass boiler

A biomass-powered energy-efficient boiler is to be fitted at an east London sugar refinery in a bid to cut carbon emissions.
Tate & Lyle hopes the boiler, which runs on wheat feed, will cut carbon emissions by as much as 70 per cent.
Once operational in two years time, the boiler will provide sufficient power to process the 1.1 million tonnes of sugar refined at the plant annually, Ian Bacon, the firm's chief executive, said.
"We believe the boiler being constructed at our Thames site is not only the largest of its kind for London, but also a first for the UK food and drink industry," he added.
"Having recently confirmed what wed already anticipated, that our carbon footprint is low at 0.43 tonnes per 1 tonne of sugar, we are now proud to be taking steps to reduce that even further with this project. This is more than a pledge - it's happening now, with construction already started."
Heat and Plumb offers a range of energy-efficient
boilers for domestic and business use that can be used to cut carbon emissions.
Particularly recommended are models from Vokera, Trianco and Vailant.
