Boilers - Winter heating costs double in four years
14/11/2007
Rising oil prices have seen the cost of heating a home through the British winter more than double over the last four years, it has been claimed.
According a report in the Times, the cost of heating a three-bedroom home just four years ago stood at around £5,000.
However, as a result of the ever-escalating price of oil, this now stands at around £1,200.
The figures make especially worrying findings given the publication of statistics yesterday highlighting the plight of the elderly, many of whom are already struggling to pay their heating bills.
According to data from Help the Aged more than 2.5 million older people are forced to stay in one-heated room all winter in a bid to cut their bills.
Graver still, around 25,000 older people die annually in winter of cold-related illnesses, the charity said.
One method of cutting heating bills is investing in an energy-efficient
boiler such as those from Vokera and Trianco - with an extensive range of both available from
Heat and Plumb.
