Fires and Heaters - Advanced eco-friendly village hall opens
02/05/2008
A ground source heat pump is a key element in what could be the most environmentally-friendly village hall in the country, it has been reported.
Kiveton Park and Wales Village Hall was constructed by development firm Hillside and houses a range of sustainable technologies, according to the Sheffield Telegraph.
Green warmth is provided by an
underfloor heating system, which is fuelled by a ground source heating pump with pipes that run 100 metres into the ground.
Resources are also saved by the eco-friendly toilets, which are flushed using collected rainwater, while photo voltaic panels on the roof have the potential to meet the whole building's power needs.
To boost the village hall's income, extra energy created by the solar panels will be sold back to the national grid.
Matt Brown, senior contracts manager with Hillside, told the paper: "We honestly believe there is no other village hall with such complete advanced environmental concepts anywhere else in the UK."
Hillside Construction had worked on a variety of educational, healthcare, leisure and social housing projects throughout its 60 years in the industry.
