One of the UK's leading heating companies has backed green energy solutions as the answer to environmental problems.

Clive Davis, head of renewables at Dimplex, has said that the contribution that heating makes to carbon emissions is not to be underestimated.

He said: "According to Defra figures, 47 per cent of the UK's carbon emissions are generated by heating and 19 per cent by electricity.

"So by achieving zero carbon electricity and electricity replacing natural gas as the energy source for space and water heating, it's not hard to see that the figures add up in a big way."

According to Mr Davis green heating solutions will become more and more advanced in the near future as manufacturers respond to the challenge of complying with the government's environmental targets.

Further imperative to innovate will be provided by increased demand from the public, he added.

Mr Davis' comments come as Dimplex recently published a set of tips to help UK homeowners cut their carbon footprint.
