Being sent to the doghouse has become a much less onerous punishment, with the release of a special electric heating system for kennels.

The system, which also brings new meaning to the phrase "like a dog on heat", has been developed by PETCool, a niche product developer from Wigan, which claims that the device is the "most comfortable, most innovative and most extraordinary pet product to take care of your dog/cat".

But alongside keeping men's best friends cosy, the device can also improve your pet's health, and is especially effective in ameliorating "bad joints" and "bad hips", PETCool claims.

PETCool is a division of Ronfell, which developed the hot/cool pad to protect pets when they are left in hot cars.

Heat and Plumb sells a range of innovative heaters including models from Baxi, Dimplex, Valor and Oliver Haffner, as well as energy-efficient boilers from Trianco and Vokera and solar powered heating systems from Worcester.
