Heat Pumps - Ground source pumps best for green basement conversions
Ground source heat pumps are a good option for consumers looking to build an environmentally-friendly cellar extension or conversion, according to a basement building expert.

According to Keith Defoe, spokesperson for Cellarwise, pumps are a good way of keeping your conversion is as green as possible while complying with new government legislation for home insulation.

He said: "With the new regulations on heat loss…you can put different types of pumps in now which can take the energy source from the ground. There are different things you can do to make it more environmentally friendly."

Mr Defoe also asserted that latterly his "enquiry rate [for basement conversions] has gone through the roof", as conditions in the housing market prompt people to modify their houses rather than move.

"A lot of people are comfortable in their house because it's good for commuting distances and schooling…the housing market is moving but it's slowing down because people don't want to move," he noted.
