Heating Controls - Consumer Reports issues energy saving tips
03/09/2007
Homeowners looking to save money on their heating bills this winter should set their
thermostats to a lower setting during the night and at times when the house is unoccupied, according to a leading consumer magazine.
The October issue of Consumer Reports also recommends that homeowners should undertake to repair work to any leaks and cracks in their duct distribution systems to ensure less heat loss.
Meanwhile, investing in insulation for hot water pipes and reducing the temperature of the
water heater can also yield considerable savings, according to the report.
Finally, the report says, that those looking to replace their existing water heater should opt for a model with a longer warranty period, since these are usually equipped with better quality burners and insulation.
The new report comes after the UK's
Energy Saving Trust recently issued a number of tips to homeowners looking to save money.
Among the recommendations were that lights are turned off when rooms are not in use and that energy-efficient light bulbs are used.
