Heating Controls - School''s heating controls cut carbon
Effective heating controls have been highlighted as a key element of a strategy to reduce costs and carbon emissions at a London school, it has emerged.

Notre Dame Roman Catholic Girls' School undertook a series of projects to lower its environment impact after received a £10,000 donation, according to community website londonse1.

When the funds provided by specialist bond managers Rogge Global Partners, the school invested in a set of improved heating controls, which ensure that the boiler and radiators at the site heat the right areas at the right time of day.

Lisa Rajan, executive member for environment with Southwark council, told the website: "This is a fantastic opportunity for Notre Dame School to reduce its carbon footprint and help highlight the importance of reducing emissions."

She said that global warming was one of the "single biggest challenges" faced by society and applauded simple steps, such as the school's improved heating controls, in fighting climate change.

Notre Dame also improved its energy efficiency with measures such as increased insulation, lighting controls and motion sensors.

Last month, the Manchester Evening News reported that Mancat college had saved £30,000 by installing renewable energy technology such as solar water heating.
