Heating controls help firm receive award nomination

Environmentally-friendly heating controls could help an office transformation firm clinch a sustainability award.

Morgan Lovell has been short listed for the City of London Corporation's Sustainable City Awards for the refurbishment of their London headquarters.

Fixtures and fittings of the office have been made from recycled materials, while infra-red sensors ensure lighting is only used in areas where staff are working.

However, the heating controls of the office are one big area that improves the firm's green credentials.

Morgan Lovell has used one of the most advanced heating and cooling systems available to reduce energy use.

Different areas of the office have independent heating controls, avoiding the need for a separate cooling system to bring the temperature down in areas that are too hot.

Managing director David Henderson said: "What is significant about this project is the successful 'green' refurbishment of a typical 1960's designed building. It demonstrates that older buildings can be made green, without costing the earth."
