Kitchens - ''Keep your kitchen sink clean to cut flu risks''
21/01/2008
Keeping
kitchen sinks and baths spic and span can actively prevent the spread of virulent flu viruses, vomiting bugs and colds, it has been claimed.
According to an article in the Irish Independent, kitchen sinks are a particular breeding ground for germs hosting up to 500,000 bacteria per square inch in the drain alone with even more in the
taps.
However, by "cleaning with an anti-bacterial product after preparing or rinsing food, especially raw fruits or vegetables", the risk of infection can be cut considerably, the paper claims.
Meanwhile, baths, especially in shared houses are also an area where viruses can incubate, but this can be taken care by applying "a disinfecting cleaner to the bath" and then washing "the germs down the drain with water" and drying with a clean towel.
Heat and Plumb haven't yet found a cure for the common cold. However, we do stock a range of kitchen sinks and
bathroom suites that are a panacea for all interior design ills. Among the brands available are Duchy, Ideal Standard and Phoenix.
