Kitchens - Home improvements most popular use of released equity
22/01/2008
Home improvements are the most common reason people choose to release equity from their homes, it has been revealed.
According to a study conducted by Norwich Union, 29 per cent of respondents said they had opted to use the funding they received to carry out large scale home improvements such as installing a fitted kitchen or new bathroom.
The second most popular reason given was to improve their general standard of life, followed by using the cash to lavish gifts on family and close friends.
However, home improvements remain perhaps the best use of the money, especially given the received wisdom that the state of the kitchen and bathroom are uppermost in the mind of prospective homebuyers.
This was recently supported in an article on 999today.com which named updating your kitchen as the fifth best way of improving a home's desirability.
