Kitchens - Kitchens remain top home improvement project
05/03/2008
Although present financial conditions may put some people off making home improvements, an expert has suggested that the kitchen is still one room homeowners prefer to refurbish.
Mark Brayford, operations director of HomePro Money, a service offering loans for home improvement projects, said that the current lending situation has dampened the home improvement market.
However, "the major market is still kitchens", the expert said, adding thet homeowners continue to make other renovations, such as double-glazing.
Mr Brayford's comments follow a report by CreditExpert which revealed that conditions within the housing market mean more people in the UK are likely to make home improvements than move.
The firm's survey found that homeowners planning to remain in their current property are seeking to spend an average of £11,142 on home improvements over the next six months.
Of those planning such projects, one-third of homeowners aged between 25 and 34 years of age said they were considering fitting a new kitchen, bathroom or making other improvements.
