Kitchens - Luxury kitchens ''becoming more popular''
01/02/2008
Kitchens costing more than £100,000 are becoming increasingly common, it has been claimed.
A recent study by Halifax found that homeowners believe doing up the kitchen is the home improvement project most likely to add value to their property.
The findings suggested most of those quizzed were thinking about adding around £10,000 to the price of their home, but the Daily Mail claims there is now a group of wealthy homeowners happy to spend a six-figure sum to give their kitchen a luxurious feel.
It quotes one bespoke kitchen maker as claiming that he regularly sells contracts worth more than £100,000, while a second said a £500,000 home kitchen is "not unusual".
According to the newspaper, the super-kitchen is "the latest and most exclusive status symbol" among celebrities, footballers and City workers.
Among those following the fashion is chef Gordon Ramsay, who despite spending much of his working life in kitchens has apparently splashed out £500,000 for a kitchen complete with
underfloor heating and a custom-made cooker for his home.
