Oil Tanks - Oil tank leaks can lead to court action, says Environment Agency
Homeowners have been warned to inspect their oil tanks for damage or cracks or face prosecution under environmental laws.

The Environment Agency Wales (EAW) has said that leaks from oil tanks can cause damage to watercourses and soils.

Furthermore, if discovered the agency said, the owner of the tank could face legal action and could be compelled to pay the Environment Agency's clear-up costs.

This is on top of the cost they might expect of having to repair the oil tank and refill it with oil.

Gareth Farr of the EAW told the Pontypridd Observer: "The best way to protect the environment is by stopping pollution before it happens - prevention is better than cure. That's why we urge anyone who stores oil on their land to inspect their tanks.

"The cost to the environment is equally high. The effect that leaking oil could have on your garden would make it infertile for years to come."

Need a new oil tank? Heat and Plumb sells an extensive range including models from Balmoral, Titan and Harlequin.
