Plumbing - Britain still a nation of home improvers
14/08/2007
DIY remains one of Britain's most popular pastimes, with people prepared to spend more cash than ever in pursuit of their dream home, it has been claimed.
Figures from Abbey show that Britons rate DIY as their second favourite diversion, just behind going on holiday.
What is more, they are prepared to spend handsomely to pursue the hobby, with the survey showing that the average Briton spends around £1,783 per year on
home improvements.
The wisdom of investing in your home in this way was confirmed by a separate study from Halifax which found that each significant improvement to a home adds around £5,000 to their value.
Other expenses found to be draining the nation's collective bank balance were socialising and holidays, which accounted for £1,295 and £3,764 respectively.
