Plumbing - Cambridge loo is top of the toilets
23/10/2007
A public toilet in Cambridge is in the running for the top prize at the Loo of the Year Awards.
The toilets were among eight public conveniences entered for the awards.
Now following visits from inspectors, the toilet in Lode Lane car park in Wicken heads the field with the award of a five-star rating - comfortably ahead of five toilets given four stars and two which pulled in three stars.
Loos were marked on a number of criteria including standards of cleanliness, decor and signage.
The eventual winner of the award will be named in a ceremony in Birmingham on December 5th.
An East Cambridgeshire District Council spokesman told the Cambridge News: "It is nice to be recognised nationally for the standards we set but it is the feedback we get from the individuals which is most pleasing.
"Derek Mitchell and his team of cleaners really deserve all the credit for achieving the five stars for their dedication to keeping the toilets at such a high standard.
"Given that hundreds of people use the facilities every day, the standard of cleanliness is amazing and if there is ever a problem they react brilliantly to solve it."
Heat and Plumb offers a range of toilet products including subtle concealed cisterns from Mirage and Armitage Shanks and a range of specially designed toilets for disabled users.
