Plumbing - German civil servants'' toilet habits under investigation

The toilet habits of German civil servants and soldiers are being probed, following the erroneous revelation that they get through 800 million rolls of toilet paper each year.

The figure of 800 million was revealed in newspaper reports and equates to each of the defence ministry's 360,000 employees using 10 rolls per day.

In response this prompted a question as to how this was possible from a German MP, the Guardian reports.

Now, as the situation escalates, German civil servants are being encouraged to calculate how much toilet paper they use per bathroom visit.

Christian Schmidt, parliamentary state secretary for the defence ministry, said that somewhere along the line a miscalculation had been made.

He did not, however, rule out the possibility that toilet paper was being used in some as yet undiscovered top secret military application.

"Maybe toilet paper has military uses that we are not necessarily aware of," Mr Schmidt said.
