Plumbing - Get smart, get a Smart Lid
28/01/2008
The days of household disputes over the man of the house leaving the toilet lid up could soon be at end with the launch of the Smart Lid.
Conceived by Daniel Shannon, the product is billed a self-closing, self-contained toilet seat that will mean your loo seat will return automatically to the rim no matter how forgetful your partner may be.
Best of all, the device employs kinetic energy rather than electricity, meaning that it will not affect your electricity bills.
Instead, the Smart Lid contains a liquid reservoir in the upper portion of the lid, from which antifreeze will flow into an activation bucket when the seat is raised, the Jackson Hole Star Tribune reports.
When sufficient liquid has reached the bucket, it pivots and activates a release mechanism, causing the lid to close automatically.
Mr Shannon has now enlisted the talents of marketing guru Bill Miller, who is seeking investors for a product hes adamant will be a huge seller.
Mr Miller said: "It's been one of those classic arguments. Cultural anthropologists will wonder where that problem went after this [product] comes to the market."
