Plumbing - Only qualified fitters should work on boilers, says HSE
15/01/2008
Homeowners have once again been reminded that only Corgi-registered gas installers should be allowed to work on their appliances.
The warning from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) comes after homeowners hired David Mountfield from Longton, Stoke on Trent, to carry out work on houses in the local area.
By carrying out the work for which he was not properly qualified he could have exposed his clients to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Mr Mountford was found guilty of breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act and now faces a six-month jail sentence.
Speaking after the case HSE investigating inspector Dr Janice Dale said: "HSE has pursued a long investigation of Mr Mountfords activities and we are therefore pleased that the seriousness of his activities has been recognised in the sentence."
