Plumbing - Toilet cops clean up the city
02/10/2007
Malaysian authorities have established a team of toilet cops to crack down on poor hygiene in the country's public toilets.
The team, which has been set up by Mohamad Radzi of the Perak tourism committee, will travel around the country inspecting toilets for cleanliness.
If they uncover evidence that toilets are in breach of standards, they will report the offenders to the authorities and may later be given the power to issue fines.
Mr Radzi Mana said: "With the formation of the squad, dirty toilets, especially in tourist spots, will be a thing of the past."
The formation of the squad comes hard on the heels of a campaign from Malaysia's central government against stinky restrooms, with the threat of the withdrawal of business licences if their toilets are not up to standard.
