07/05/2008
The UK's best toilets have been recognised, with the announcement of the winners of the 2008 Loo of the Year Awards.
Aiming to spot the nation's top 'away from home' toilets, the prestigious Winner's Trophy was handed to Manchester's Trafford Centre in recognition of its family-friendly toilets and facilities for older children and adults with special needs.
Richard Chisnell, awards director, said: "Our 21st century society demands and expects a fully inclusive toileting experience and The Trafford Centre is to be congratulated for its forward thinking on this vitally important service."
The centre also scooped the National 'Changing Places' Trophy, which specifically looks at the toilet facilities provided for the less able and their carers.
Andy Bates, customer services manager at the Trafford Centre, told Buildingtalk that the shopping centre took pride in bringing the best toilet and changing facilities to its customers.
In 2007, the Loo of the Year Awards published standards of excellence in public toilets, which included names such as Asda, J D Wetherspoon, the Camping and Caravanning Club and McDonalds.
