Radiators - Consumers issued money-saving advice
Homeowners can lower energy costs by installing more efficient boilers, according to a recent report in the Manchester Evening News (MEN).

Condensing boilers are particularly effective for saving consumers money, the publication states.

The newspaper goes on to indicate a number of other methods that may help Britons reduce the cost of their fuel bills.

It is suggested that spare bedroom radiators should be turned down to their lowest-possible setting without being turned off completely. The MEN also advises that placing reflective foil behind radiators on external walls can help reduce the amount of heat that is lost.

Commenting more generally, the paper says: "A simple but effective way to cut heating costs is to take control of your central heating thermostat."

A one degree c reduction in room temperature can save homeowners around £40 per year, it adds.

Last week, fuel poverty charity National Energy Action suggested around half a million homes in the UK have fallen into fuel poverty due to rising fuel prices at the start of 2008.
