Renewable Energy - ''Simple steps'' to save energy and money
08/04/2008
Energy-saving tips that can work alongside
solar heating and efficient
boilers have been issued by energy conservation experts.
The Energy Saving Trust reminded homeowners that simple steps such as switching off lights and not leaving appliances on standby can save on a home's energy costs.
Zoltan Zovody, strategy manager of the trust, said that homeowners can also switch to energy-efficient light bulbs, add a jacket to their water tank, turn down the thermostat and increase the amount of loft and cavity wall insulation to save money.
"We have worked out that homeowners can save up to £250 a year off their fuel bills by following our top tips," he advises.
The suggestions come after the government removed the planning permission requirement for larger-scale projects such as microgeneration technologies.
From April 6th, homeowners have been able to install solar panels, biomass boilers and ground-source heat pumps without seeking planning permission first, with a relaxation on the rules surrounding wind turbines expected to follow in the future.
