Renewable Energy - Builders advised to think about renewables
22/02/2008
Anyone planning a self build project should remember that new guidelines about emissions from domestic properties are imminent, a home improvement expert has advised.
The government has set a target of all new homes being zero carbon by 2016 and people who build their own properties will be expected to comply with the code for sustainable houses.
Prospective self builders need to get to grips with ideas such as sustainable construction materials and
renewable energy if they are to achieve that, according to the organisers of the National Homebuilding & Renovating Show.
The exhibition, which is scheduled to take place at Birmingham NEC from April 10th to 13th, will feature a number of seminars on topics such as
solar heating, plumbing, ventilation and microgeneration.
Show director Nick Noble said people who take the time to understand such technologies would gain much more than just the ability to comply with new building regulations.
"Improving domestic energy efficiency will cut fuel bills and reduce carbon emissions. This has to be a good idea whether you are building a brand new home or making your current home more efficient," explained Mr Noble.
Former housing minister Yvette Cooper recently revealed changes to the planning regulations are being considered in order to help speed up the process of building homes.
