Renewable Energy - Hotel uses solar water heating
21/05/2008
A Blackpool hotel has invested £55,000 in
renewable energy sources and other green technologies, it has been reported.
The Number One South Beach guesthouse has installed solar water heating panels on the roof to supply domestic hot water and uses a new condensing boiler to save further energy, according to the Blackpool Gazette.
Heating controls are also used by the hotel, with thermostatic controls on
radiators reducing energy waste and effective use of heating zones driving power needs down further.
Owner Mark Smith told the newspaper: "The solar panels on the roof are amazing. They can heat water on their own without any assistance to 60 degrees, warm enough to have a wash. They're great."
Since introducing the new technology, energy efficiency has improved by 37 per cent, meaning the investment will pay for itself in just three years.
Blackpool council has announced that it is running workshops to encourage hoteliers in the area to adopt renewable energy sources and other sustainable technologies.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, solar water heating panels can save an average home £40 a year and reduce carbon emissions by 350 kilogrammes.
