Solar Heating - Chinese Olympics organisers go green

A host of environmentally-friendly heating and power solutions are being employed the Chinese government in a bid to make the Beijing Olympic Games the greenest on record.

The Beijing Organising Committee has invested some £6 billion in green energy applications which will be used for stadia and administrative buildings.

The games' flagship venue spectacular National Stadium, which will host athletics and football events, will be lit by a 130kW photo-valtaic solar-powered system.

Meanwhile, the Olympic Green Tennis Centre will use a combination of solar panels and air source heat pumps.

News of the Chinese administration's moves will lay down the gauntlet to the organisers of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, which UK government figures have pledged will be the first-ever carbon neutral games in the Olympiad's history.
