Solar Heating - Eco-show home opens its doors

Londoners will be able to see first-hand the effect that energy-efficient appliances can have in cutting emissions - in the form of a temporary eco-home currently on show in Trafalgar Square.

The show home, wittily dubbed No.1 Lower Carbon Drive, is based on a Victorian semi, which was chosen by the brains behind the project since it is deemed to typify London's housing stock.

Inside, the home is divided into six areas: energy, ventilation, appliances, water, recycling and insulation, with tips and information available about how homeowners might implement the innovations on view in their own homes.

The property will be removed from Trafalgar Square on December 16th, after which point it will begin a tour of London.

Andrew Scoones, a director at The Building Centre, said: "The exhibition showcases the latest materials and technology that can help us live ‘greener’ lives. There are small measures that everyone can undertake for example good insulation and ventilation that also make strong financial sense.

"Or, if people want to take a bigger step, guidance is on hand on how to install photovoltaic panels or start grey-water harvesting."
