Solar Heating - New homes get solar heating systems
04/02/2008
People buying a new home at a development in North Wales could opt for a property with a
solar heating system, according to the house builder.
Anwyl Construction has installed a solar-powered hot water system in the roofs of two of the houses on its new 127-property estate in Saltney, reports the Western Mail.
The builder's commercial director Bryn Roberts told the newspaper the Worcester Bosch system should provide between 50 per cent and 70 per cent of each property's hot water requirements.
During the longer sunlight hours of the summer months homeowners should be able to switch their
boilers off and rely on the solar panels entirely for hot water, he continued.
"That means a very worthwhile saving on hot water heating costs and a much greener option than using an exclusively gas, oil or electric system," Mr Roberts added.
A recent report by the National Assembly for Wales recommended the use of more
renewable energy measures, such as solar water heating, biomass boilers and solar panels, in existing homes in order to help reduce carbon emissions.
