09/06/2008
The latest developments in
renewable energy will be showcased at a new centre in London.
Solar water heating, ground source heat pumps and other technologies will be on display at the Centre for Efficient and Renewable Energy in Buildings, which will open at London South Bank University.
In addition to displaying the units, the centre will also serve as a research facility and work with the construction industry to promote the use of renewable energy in the nation's new homes.
The centre itself will make use of renewable energy and sustainable techniques, with the building featuring solar water heating, thermal massing and ground source heating and cooling in its design.
Commenting on the centre, mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "If we are to reduce carbon emissions in London and tackle climate change, it is vital that we help the construction and design industries to incorporate energy efficient technologies into their buildings."
Manny Lewis, chief executive of the LDA, which is part funding the centre, also said London is a leader in its approach to tackling climate change and noted the importance of new products in reducing carbon emissions.
